Republique: Because sometimes its just nice to look back and remember the bloodshed! The Peninsular War 1809

So, way back in 1809 my Spanish army lined up across the hills in Aragon and awaited the arrival of Marshal Suchets cheese eating surrender monkeys!

This was a game played using the free rules Republique that can be found over at War Times Journal and it can be said that it was not my armies finest moment...

The Spanish army of Aragon lines the hills...

The Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys put in an appearance...

A view of the battlefield showing the French advancing on the Spanish positions

A view from behind the Spanish lines looking across at the all too Russian looking French infantry columns... (ummmm.,. yeah!)

The French folding back the Spanish flank and launching attacks across the line....

A panoramic view of the battle unfolding...
So. sometimes its just nice when you come across photographs of one of your old games. I really love my Spanish army! They take a considerable amount of effort to get a result from and facing a mostly veteran French army is just asking for trouble but one this is certain... every Spanish player will enjoy juggling his troops in order to plug holes in his line... and this game was no exception.

ummmmmmm. *cough* ahem... the Spanish had their flank folded and rolled right up, the Provincial Grenadiers and Walloon Guards once again stopping a complete rout!
